The world’s biggest markets for illegal wildlife products are on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and China’s WeChat.

Organized crime groups selling illegal wildlife – from ivory bangles to live baby orangutans – are taking advantage of the enormous number of social media users, and the anonymity social media provides, to reach millions of customers. This is literally wiping out key endangered species, including elephants, rhinos and apes

This is totally illegal!

Using existing laws, U.S. regulators can take steps to push public firms like Facebook to clean up their act. Congress is also preparing to reform outdated laws governing social media. We must act now to make sure protecting wildlife is part of that reform.
